Neilstown boxer, Kenneth Egan, is among five Irish fighters who have qualified for the Olympics this summer.
Joining Egan on the flight to China is middleweight, Darren Sutherland,
and light welterweight, John Joe Joyce. While, light-flyweight, Paddy
Barnes, and bantamweight, John Joe Nevin booked their place at the
Games back in March.

With the league ending the way it did, it sets the summer up just
nicely. In the football there were impressive campaigns for Derry,
Galway and Donegal in Division 1, while in the second tier Monaghan and Westmeath will have something to say on the shake up of this year’s All Ireland Football Championship.

As the Trappatoni-era is about to begin, there are some problems that need to be sorted out. Steve Finnan and Andy O’Brien must be persuaded to come back and the Stephen Ireland saga must end soon. However, looking at our squad, we have more than enough to mount a serious challenge at qualifying for the World Cup in 2010.
