Cherry Orchard beds closures will cause “stress and suffering” says local TD

Local TD Catherine Byrne has said that the HSE decision to remove respite care beds in Cherry Orchard Hospital shows a “disregard” for the elderly population which will cause “stress and suffering” for old people.

BCFE SU absent from national congress

Ballyfermot college was entitled to send a delegate to the Union of Students in Ireland annual congress, but the BCFE Student Union failed to represent its students.

Political spin topic for media forum

The last two sessions of the Cleraun Monthly Forum, chaired by Andrew Lynch and Tony Allwright respectively will take place this Monday April 28 and Monday May 19.

The forums are aimed at students and others interested in the media.

Lynch,chief political commentator for the Evening Herald, will be chairing a talk on political spin within the media. While Allwright, a columnist for the Irish Times and blogger will chair a debate on ethical issues facing bloggers.

Lisbon Treaty head to head: No

In our head to head on the Lisbon Treaty, below John Mc Guirk of Libertas argues for a No vote in the
upcoming Irish referendum, while Eric Keane of Young Fine Gael calls for a Yes vote here.


The European Union is almost universally acknowledged to suffer from what is known as a “democratic deficit”.  This refers to the fact that there exists a large gulf between the ordinary citizen and those who are responsible for generating the 80 percent of Irish law that emanates from Brussels.
