Rag week posponded, passes without note
BCFE‘s first rag week in over three years was cancelled unbeknownst to the student population. The only reason given for the decision was the “academic commitments” of the members of the SU.
When asked why the SU failed to deliver on the promised festivities, union head Jenny little claimed to being “up to their eyeballs with college work and assignments”.
Little was unable to provide any other reason as to why the SU was unable to foresee such a situation arising prior to announcing the dates of the intended rag week.
The rag week was due to commence on Monday April 7 and run until Thursday April 10. Little claimed she wanted to “create a buzz around the place” as well as “trying to get everybody to know each other”.The union also promised a participation in International Students’ Day, “There will be all types of food, music and games,” Little said.
She also looked forward to her proposed quiz nights, “We hope to draw people in with quizzes ranging from Family Guy and The Simpsons to sport,” she said.
However, none of the mentioned events took place, despite the confidence in the promised event: “We’re going to put it right in front of people, they don’t have to take part in everything but it’s going to be a lot of fun and a proper laugh”.
The only event of note was a small gig played by bands on Monday, April
7 managed by students from the Music Management course. Those who
preformed at the gig were up and coming groups Christopher Robbin, Dead
Enemy and Leopold. The afternoon show ran for three hours and was
attended by no more than fifty students.
Despite the undoubted energy of the acts it remained a subdued affair.
