67% look for action on climate change
The vast majority of students want action on climate change, with 67 percent of students agreeing that it is up to a mixture of governments and the individuals to stop the phenomenon.
Students were asked, ‘which best describes your opinion on global warming,’ and given seven choices.
Of
a sample of 100 students polled, 59 percent said it was “it is up to a
mixture of governments and the individuals to stop it”. Another six
said “it is up to individuals to stop it” and two looked to governments
alone to take action.
On the down side, 16 percent chose ‘it is unstoppable,’ and 11
percent described climate change as ‘a scientific myth’. While six
percent of students were undecided or had no view on the subject.
The Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) is the UN
watchdog on climate issues. Its yearly report reflects the present
scientific concession on issues of climate change. Hundreds of
scientists all over the world contribute to the work of the IPCC. In
its latest report it stated that it was 90 percent sure that climate
change was happening and was due to human actions.
