Rock School and Music Management students set stage to rock city centre

Rockschool With a number of city centre gigs lined up this month and next will be will be a busy time for Rock School and Music Management music students at Ballyfermot College of Further Education.

The Rock School course has a series of gigs lined up throughout the month, starting on the Wednesday April 9 in the Village, Wexford Street.

Each night will feature eight bands from both first and second years of the course and promises “everything from singer-songwriters to metal”. Tickets are priced €10, or €7 for students, and available from the BCFE Arts Block or on the door of the venue.

The Rock School is one of the most popular music courses in the country and has been over-subscribed each year.

The Music Management course also has had a full calendar of live shows to promote over the coming months. Initially the promotions programme was to start in the HUB venue in Temple Bar on the February 21, but had to be cancelled due to an unplanned explosion at the venue.

Raindog Promotions has yet to announce a future date. However, the next show passed unhindered the following week at Eamonn Dorans, featuring performances form Little Nightmare, Melophobia, and Black Night Clarity.

It was After Dark Promotion’s night last Friday at the Radio City venue, with Christopher Robin and Toys providing the music. In March the music continues with Fear Productions showcasing bands the Amazing Few, More Tiny Giants and Polemics at the hopefully repaired HUB venue.

The last date in the music diary is the Rouge Rock night on April 1 at the Sugar Club. Performers include trad-rockers the Blood Red Mountain Band and Good News with a special appearance by Black Orchid (see myspace.com/whiterabbitpromotions).

Both students from the Rock School and the Music Management courses recently took part in Muzone’s, the European music initiative, collaboration and exchange programme at the Popakademie in Mannheim, Germany.
