Residents oppose ‘landmark tower’

Local residents have promised to fight proposals to build an 11- storey development on Ballyfermot Road, according to a local newspaper, the Ballyfermot Echo.

The proposed site is at the Gala bingo and snooker hall. The developers, Dyer Associates Limited of Co Wicklow, have registered plans with Dublin City Council to build 90 apartments and seven retail units spread out over five blocks, the tallest of which will be an 11 storey building, described by the developers as a ‘landmark tower’.

The tallest residential building in Ballyfermot at the moment is the four-storey Father Lemass apartment complex, situated beside the Assumption Church.

Ken Moore, from the Carna Residents Association, told the Echo: “Building something of that height, with so many apartments packed into it could lead to them becoming tenements.”

The planning application – which was previously declared invalid for technical reasons – included a new bingo hall and bar, seven retail units, a restaurant, takeaway, cafe and creche.

The invalidation was described by the council as being due to “insufficient” public information.
The applicant was requested to submit a new site notice, and new newspaper notices which adequately describe the proposals.

Residents of the area have five weeks to register any comments or objections with the council.
